We Go Forth Thursday Week 11 Ordinary Time 19 June 2025 We Pray Let us pray that we will turn confidently to God when we need help. (pause) Lord God, you are always ready to save us. Teach us to trust that you will answer our call, and let our faith shine through our actions. Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. We Listen A reading from the holy Gospel according to Matthew (14:25-31) A little while before morning, Jesus came walking on the water toward his disciples. When they saw him, they thought he was a ghost. They were terrified and started screaming. At once Jesus said to them, “Don’t worry! I am Jesus. Don’t be afraid.” Peter replied, “Lord, if it is really you, tell me to come to you on the water.” “Come on!” Jesus said. Peter then got out of the boat and started walking on the water toward him. But when Peter saw how strong the wind was, he was afraid and started sinking. “Lord, save me!” he shouted. Right away Jesus reached out his hand. He helped Peter up and said, “You surely don’t have much faith. Why do you doubt?” The Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ. We Respond Imagine the disciples’ surprise to see a man walking towards them on the water during the night. Imagine how Peter must have felt, stepping our into the deep waves to see if he could walk across the top of the water to Jesus. If you were Peter, would you have been frightened in the strong wind too? Do you think you would have started to sink too, or do you think your faith would have been strong enough to walk across the water? To reflect upon this scripture passage, watch an animated account of this story: Jesus Walking on Water. May Christ the Lord walk beside us. Amen. May God bless us in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. 102
