A reading from the holy Gospel according to Matthew (16:15-19) Then Jesus asked the disciples, “Who do you say I am?” Simon Peter spoke up, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.” Jesus told him: “Simon, son of Jonah, you are blessed! You didn’t discover this on your own. It was shown to you by my Father in heaven. So I will call you Peter, which means ‘a rock.’ On this rock I will build my Church, and death itself will not have any power over it. I will give you the keys to the kingdom of heaven, and God in heaven will allow whatever you allow on earth.” The Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ. Yesterday was the feast day of Saints Peter and Paul. Saint Peter was the leader among the apostles and Saint Paul the missionary who preached the gospel to all. Their strong faith and leadership brought the Church to birth. Let us pray. (pause) God our Father, through the prayers of the apostles Peter and Paul, may we who have received our faith through their preaching share in their joy in following the Lord. Through Christ our Lord. Amen. We Gather We Listen May the Lord bless us and keep us safe. Amen. May God bless us in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. We Go into the World Monday Week 13 Ordinary Time 30 June 2025 We Reflect Simon Peter was given a very special job after he declared that Jesus was the Son of God. Jesus told Peter that he would be the rock on which Jesus would build his Church. This didn’t mean that Peter was a perfect person, but he gave his life to spreading the message of Jesus.
