Praying Together With Children - 2025

Thursday Saint Augustine 28 August 2025 We Gather We Listen We Reflect We Go into the World Today we celebrate Saint Augustine whose change of heart made him the greatest of teachers and bishops. Let us pray for bishops and Church leaders. (pause) God of wisdom, may the leaders of the Church today bring people to Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. May Christ the Lord walk beside us. Amen. May God bless us in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. A reading from the holy Gospel according to Mark (4:36-40) Jesus’ disciples started across the lake with him in the boat. Some other boats followed along. Suddenly a windstorm struck the lake. Waves started splashing into the boat, and it was about to sink. Jesus was in the back of the boat with his head on a pillow, and he was asleep. His disciples woke him and said, "Teacher, don’t you care that we’re about to drown? " Jesus got up and ordered the wind and the waves to be quiet. The wind stopped, and everything was calm. Jesus asked his disciples, "Why were you afraid? Don’t you have any faith?" The Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ. Can you imagine how frightening it must have been for the disciples to be caught in a storm in their fishing boat on the sea? This story from Mark’s gospel reminds us to have faith that Jesus can always come to our rescue. Can you think of a stormy time in your life recently where you needed Jesus’ help to feel calm again. Watch this short video, Jesus Calms the Storm, to reflect on this power of Jesus to bring calm to our lives if we call on him for help. 152
