Pope Gregory is called the ‘Great’ because of his wonderful leadership in the Church. Let us pray for our pope and bishops who lead the Church today. (pause) God of light and truth, give wisdom and courage to our Church leaders and help us all to build our lives on Jesus. Through Christ our Lord. Amen. Wednesday Saint Gregory the Great 3 September 2025 We Gather A reading from the holy gospel according to Luke (10:25-28) An expert in the Law asked Jesus a question. “Teacher,” he asked, “what must I do to have eternal life?” Jesus answered, “What is written in the Scriptures? How do you understand them?” The man replied, “The Scriptures say, ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, strength, and mind.’ They also say, ‘Love your neighbours as much as you love yourself.’” Jesus said, “You have given the right answer. If you do this, you will have eternal life.” The Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ. In the reading we have just heard, Jesus gives two clear and important commandments to the people who are listening: Love God and love other people.
