RESPONSE COLLECT Saint Jerome devoted his life to the Scriptures as God’s lifegiving word. Let us pray that we too will love the bible. (pause) God of wisdom, speak to us in our hearts when we hear the holy words of Scripture. Through Christ our Lord. Amen. DISMISSAL May the Lord’s face shine upon us and be gracious to us. Amen. May God bless us in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. SCRIPTURE TUESDAY 30 SEPTEMBER 2025 Saint Jerome Today’s Scripture story reminds us to do all we can to help those who are poor and suffering. There are thousands of children in Australia who struggle through a day of school with very little food, and who carry heavy burdens of worry about what the future may hold. Watch together this short animated film called David and the Big Heavy. Then spend a moment in quiet prayer, asking God to bless people in Australia and around the world who are living in poverty. Also remember to pray for the work of organisations like St Vincent de Paul, The Smith Family and Lifeline who provide much needed assistance to Australians living in poverty. A reading from the second letter of St Paul to the Corinthians (8:9, 13-14) You know that our Lord Jesus Christ was kind enough to give up all his riches and become poor, so that you could become rich. I am not trying to make life easier for others by making life harder for you. But it is only fair for you to share with them when you have so much, and they have so little. Later, when they have more than enough, and you are in need, they can share with you. Then everyone will have a fair share, The word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. 175
