Ash Wednesday Wednesday With ashes as our sign, we begin the forty days of Lent and commit ourselves to fasting, prayer and good works. Let us pray that we may be faithful to Jesus’ call to turn back to him. (pause) Merciful God, tenderly guide us through this Lenten season. May the ashes we wear today lead us to Christ and the Gospel. Through Christ our Lord. Amen. Let’s pray... A reading from the book of the prophet Isaiah (58:6-8) I’ll tell you what it really means to worship the Lord. Remove the chains of prisoners who are chained unjustly. Free those who are abused! Share your food with everyone who is hungry; share your home with the poor and homeless. Give clothes to those in need; don’t turn away your relatives. Then your light will shine like the dawning sun, and you will quickly be healed. The word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. Let’ Let ss listen to God’s word... Spend a few minutes as a group discussing ways that you might share your food with the hungry, or give clothes, toys or other belongings to those in need during Lent.
