Praying Together With Children - 2025

Scripture Dismissal May the love of God guide our minds. Alleluia! Alleluia! May God bless us in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. A reading from the holy Gospel according to John (21:4-6, 9, 12) Collect We celebrate the faith of Saint Athanasius, a bishop who stayed strong in his belief in Christ when others were trying to change his mind. Let us pray for us all to have the strength to remain faithful. (pause) O God, source of life, give us the courage we need to stay faithful even when it is hard. Through Christ our Lord. Amen. FRIDAY SAINT ATHANASIUS 2 MAY 2025 Response Form groups, and using construction paper, see how many fish shapes each group can cut out in an allotted time (3-4mins). Next, turn a classroom table upside down to be a ‘boat’ and choose some students to act out the story. Cast out a piece of fabric as the ‘net’, and have some students place all the fish in the net to be dragged into the ‘boat’. Afterwards, you can create a collage from your fish, or share the fish out to be used as bookmarks. One night Peter and some of the disciples had gone fishing. Early the next morning the risen Jesus stood on the shore, but the disciples did not realise who he was. Jesus shouted, “Friends, have you caught anything?” “No!” they answered. So he told them, “Let your net down on the right side of your boat, and you will catch some fish.” They did, and the net was so full of fish that they could not drag it up into the boat. Jesus’ favourite disciple told Peter, “It’s the Lord!” When the disciples got out of the boat, they saw some bread and a charcoal fire with fish on it. Jesus said, “Come and eat!” But none of the disciples dared ask who he was. They knew he was the Lord. The Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ. 68
